Austin, one of the campers, had his 16th birthday here in camp this week. And what’s a better way to spend your birthday than by catching a 125 lb halibut???

That’s not all. Doug also caught a heavy halibut, weighing in at a little over 80 lbs.

As you can see, there was quite a bit of success this week with the halibut fishing, which is a huge thanks to God, because the Bayliner is now officially out of commission. The engine was simply giving us too many problems to keep it running for this year.

We’re currently looking for another boat, but in the meantime, these guys took out one of our salmon fishing skiffs and were able to bring back those two nice fish. They had quite an adventure dragging those huge fish off the bottom and into the boat, and they all came back with huge smiles on their faces.

Salmon fishing out front has also been terrific. There are a large bunch of fresh salmon coming into the bay, and some of them are just plain huge! Like I said before, nearly everybody limited out almost every day this week, most of them by snagging. However, these new fish are biting well too. Usually pink and/or chartreuse are the best colors, but My dad and I went out today and caught 5 by the mouth on a purple Neon Magic spinner.  If I were you, I would definitely throw one or two purple spinners in your box before you come up.

Here’s Sherman and Kay with a bunch of fish:

Here’s Ron with a beautiful silver. It measured out at 30 inches and weighed 12 lbs.

Kevin and Gabe with some nice fish as well:

It’s been a great week for fishing. Thanks Austin for spending your 16th here at fish camp! Happy birthday!
